DE-AMALGAMATION

We will streamline council bureaucracy.

Vision line 1

Give the community the opportunity to have their say on the forced Amalgamation. Amalgamation has created a top-heavy management structure whilst depleting staff who actually deliver on the ground services. Core council services and minor development applications are being delayed as service staff are overworked. This impedes progress for residents and businesses as well as improvements to our area.

Vision line 2

CLIMATE CHANGE/OUR ENVIRONMENT

Alternative energy: Lobby council to investigate community batteries to store reusable energy.

Sustainable tree planting: Increase Inner West tree canopy by planting more trees suitable to the environment, whilst beautifying and improving streets and streetscapes.

One council location: Reduce council carbon and environmental footprint by operating from one council operations centre. This will create efficiencies in service delivery and costs savings by not duplicating service provisions.

Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO):  We will continue to support the NSW government and advocate for changes to waste management, including transforming green bins to include food scraps that can be composted/re-used/recycled.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

Limit rate increases: We will continue to fight against future rate increases and continue to advocate for reductions in council waste by improving financial management and accountability.

NO Parking meters: We will oppose parking meters which impact activity and accessibility to main streets, businesses, and services.

Parking: We will continue to advocate for increased parking facilities/on-site car park zones where council has decreased provision of new/increased parking on new residential and building developments

Vision Line 3

CONSIDERED, COMMUNITY MINDED ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES

We will consult with the community and advocate for the needs of the different groups and members of our diverse community.  We will lobby council to create communal facilities that reflect the character and demographic of our area with a focus on cultural and different age based groups; you and your needs!

vision line 4

Diversity and Inclusion: We are committed to acknowledging, supporting and celebrating the many groups that make up our wonderfully diverse community including seniors, our Indigenous community, our LGBTQI+ community members and the many cultural communities that call the Inner West home.

Community engagement: We want Marrickville to continue to be a great place to live, work and play. We welcome the views of all stakeholders including residents, visitors, businesses, and organisations. Sharing our values and ideals with each other helps us to all work together to enhance and continue to create the rich and diverse community so beloved to us all in the Inner West family.

COMMUNITY VOICE

Marrickville Resident, Juliett Bar

Councillor Victor Macri was of great assistance with the campaign to install a pedestrian crossing across Richardson Crescent, Marrickville. As the crossing campaign organiser, and community representative of two local schools, Tempe High School and Ferncourt Primary School, I met onsite with Vic and local parents on several occasions to witness how dangerous this road was for hundreds children who had to cross it to get to and from school every day.

Vic was on the local traffic committee and he really did help every step of the way to get the crossing installed. He kept us regularly updated with what was happening at the council and with the various stakeholders who needed to collaborate in order for the crossing to be completed.
